This has been attracting a lot of attention recently, so I’m reposting about this…
Earlier in the year I contributed a chapter on the role of data journalism in US and UK local and community media, to “Data Journalism: Mapping the future” (buy via: Amazon.com – Amazon.co.uk).
Adapted extracts featured on the BBC College of Journalism (Data stories need context for hyperlocal audiences, 4 Feb 2014) , journalism.co.uk (5 ways hyperlocal sites can do more with data, 18 Feb 2014) and the US based website Street Fight (How Hyperlocal Publishers Can Take Advantage of the Data Gold Rush , 02 May 2014).
You can see a near-final draft of the chapter below and via my Scribd account. It’s also available on my academia.edu page – although I’d obviously encourage everyone to go out and buy the book – which has this and much much more in it!
