[Book preview] Digital Middle East: State and Society in the Information Age

The Center for International and Regional Studies at Georgetown University in Qatar (CIRS) launched the “The Digital Middle East” research initiative in 2014; and I was fortunate enough to be part of this project.

Academics from various disciplinary backgrounds were invited to Doha to discuss their research findings and share their chapter submission on themes related to the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the Middle East. The topics ranged from the effects of technology on the Arab uprisings to state measures being undertaken to incorporate technology into everyday life.

The project offers grounded reflections on how information technologies are affecting a region that is already in the throes of change, but also provides a conceptual framework for understanding and analyzing the multiple dimensions and various articulations of the digital turn.

Here’s a preview of this forthcoming book (which will be published by Hurst).
