A roundup of the key social media developments in Qatar during 2013. Qatar is one of two non-European countries in the world in a list of the Top 10 countries with the highest percentage of its population online (the other is New Zealand, according to a 2013 report from the Broadband Commission).
Whilst data from Northwestern University’s study into Media Use in the Middle East found that 45% of people living in the state of Qatar access social media websites at least once a day, with Facebook being the most used network, followed by Twitter and Instagram or Google+.
People in Qatar spend an average of 2 hours a day on social media websites, so these slides explores a little bit about what they do and where.
